======================================================================= Listing your event in Dance, Movement, and CI Events in Ottawa/Gatineau ======================================================================= I curate an online newsletter and a mailing list for the Ottawa/Gatineau region: https://contactimprov.ca/ottnews I list social/conscious dance/movement events that are of interest to me and are open to the general public without requiring prior skills training, e.g. I don't usually list yoga, therapy, or ballet/dance classes that are teaching specific individual skills. I list social dances. The best way for me to list your event is if you put all the information I need (listed below) on your public web site and then send me the URL for the public web page. You update your web page if the event is cancelled or conditions change. Dance/movement events for my newsletter need as many of these things as possible: - title of the event - dates and times - location and venue - contact human: name, email, phone - wheelchair accessible or not (including washroom) - who can attend? children or not? adults only? women only? - If your event is women-only, please put that clearly in the event title! - prior dance/movement experience needed or not? - public web URL (not via facebook) with map and/or directions to the venue - optional facebook page/group URL for the organization running the event - optional facebook event URL for the specific event - while we are in a pandemic: COVID-19 safety requirements (or not) If the public web URL is done right, all the above info will be on the public web page and all you have to do is send that link to me and I'll pull all the things I need from it, including a link to an image. Less useful to me are events that are only on the facebook (because not everyone is on the facebook and because I can't link to any images), and even less useful are events that don't have any existing web presence at all (because you can't announce changes and cancellations). Having a URL with event details that you can update is important so that people can check the URL just before event time to make sure it's still happening. Without that event URL that you update, you have no way to alert the people on my mailing list that things have changed. (To avoid email fatigue, I won't re-send my newsletter to 700+ people to update your event listing if you change it or cancel, though I will update the online web copy.) I can't use any images you might send to me by email, since I have no place to store them for hyperlink inclusion in my online newsletter. I can only link to images already on the public web site for the event. Linking to facebook images doesn't work; you need to put the images on some non-facebook web site. (Links to Eventbrite images do work.) - Ian! D. Allen - idallen@idallen.ca - www.idallen.com - January 2026
