Core Workshop Group meets Tuesdays

Sharing a curiosity for how social, cultural and environmental change happens, we feel drawn to explore how we can consciously design for change through the arts. Our shared goal is to explore large systemic issues in a way that resounds in the body and heart-felt experience of the people in our community, and frees up the potential energy there. This will happen through interviews, dialogue, development of electronic soundscape, and live voice-movement-theatre workshops, evolving into site-specific, experiential performance-event(s). more about the techniques...

Dynamic Integration Bodywork is Joshua Lyons’ and Michael Mazur's development of an approach to bodywork that marries Structural Integration and Alexander Technique. It encourages the integration of changes in fascia and alignment through palpation, as well as through movement and body awareness, such as how we sense where our support comes from allowing us to move more freely and easily. Structural Integration or Rolfing is a form of bodywork that works with the connective tissue or fascia to free up the body's potential for movement.

"The Alexander Technique is a method that works to change (movement) habits in our everyday activities. It is a simple and practical method for improving ease and freedom of movement, balance, support and coordination. The technique teaches the use of the appropriate amount of effort for a particular activity, giving you more energy for all your activities. It is not a series of treatments or exercises, but rather a reeducation of the mind and body. The Alexander Technique is a method which helps a person discover a new balance in the body by releasing unnecessary tension. It can be applied to sitting, lying down, standing, walking, lifting, and other daily activities..."

(from "Changing The Way You Work: The Alexander Technique")

I am really excited about this work because it has had a major effect on my own body - I used to experience horrible chronic pain in my shoulders, neck and back, and now I do not. I feel a lot more freedom and ease in my movement and breath, and experience myself as doing less unnecessary work. When I look in a mirror I can actually see the changes in the alignment of my body, and others have noticed the changes too.
If you would like to try it out, you can call or email me to schedule a one-on-one session at a very reasonable rate, as I am still in training (a sliding scale of $30-$40). Joshua Lyons comes regularily to KW from Toronto to assist in my training and give demonstrations.
